2010 NFL Mock Draft!

It has been quit some time since I have wrote on this blog. I figure, since tomorrow is the start of one of my most favorite sports days, it's time to update. Tomorrow is the start of the now 3 day NFL draft. I love the draft! I want Mel Kiper Jr job. I don't know what it is. Ever since I was little, I would watch the draft and try to guess who the teams would take. Of course when I was little I didn't have the knowledge of the players like I do now. I would just see names on the screen and say, "they are going to take that guy". I still remember one conversation I had over the draft. It went like this:

Me: Why are they not taking Grbac! Mom, why they heck are the Lions not taking Grbac! He's awesome, and from Michigan. I don't get it!

Mom: Hunny I don't know. Maybe, they still will.

Me: No they wont! This is dumb. They are with sucking! I hate the Lions!

Mom: Okay hun!

Yeah...So...I have always been passionate about this. My poor mom. She had no idea what I was talking about, but thats why we love them. They are always there to listen. Anyways.......

Lets get to my mock for this year, and remember the draft is tomorrow! WOO HOO!

With the first selection in the 2010 NFL draft the St. Louis Rams select...

1. Rams - Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma - Bradford does not want to play for the Rams. My guess is that they will pull off a trade later in the draft. Probably with the Browns, but do not count out the Redskins still. Even though they just got McNabb, he still only has a few years left in him. So why not find the future.

2. Lions - Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska - We need to just solidify our defense. Sure our o-line needs help and Okung could help there. The only problem for me with Okung is that the Oklahoma State plays a spread offense.

3. Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma - Word has it that even if Suh is available here, the Buccs want McCoy. Its a toss up which guy is going to be the better pry. Both look like they are going to be pro bowlers for many years.

4. Redskins - Russell Okung OT Oklahoma State - They just got Mcnabb. Now they just need to protect him. Okung is the perfect pick, and fit for the Skins!

5. Chiefs - Eric Berry S Tennessee - Many Speculate DT Dan Williams here. But this draft is DT heavy. They can get one in the second. Berry is quit possibly the best player in this draft.

6. Seahawks - Trent Williams OT Oklahoma

7. Browns - Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame - They might trade him to the Rams for Bradford

8. Raiders - Dan Williams DT Tennessee

9. Bills - Anthony Davis OT Rutgers

10. Jags - Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech

11. Broncos - Rolando McClain LB Alabama

12. Dolphins - Earl Thomas S Texas

13. 49ers - Joe Haden CB Flordia

14. Seahwaks - Kyle Wilson CB Boise State

15. Giants - Mike Iupati G Idaho

16. Titans - Brian Bulaga OT Iowa

17. 49ers - Sean Weatherspoon LB Missori

18. Steelers - Devin McCourty CB Rutgers

19. Falcons - Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State

20. Texans - CJ Spiller RB Clemson

21. Bengals - Sergio Kindle OLB Texas

22. Patriots - Brandon Graham DE/LB Michigan

23. Packers - Everson Griffen LB USC

24. Eagles - Patrick Robinson CB Flordia State

25. Ravens - Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma

26. Cardinals - Jason Piere Paul DE South Flordia

27. Cowboys - Jerry Hughes DE TCU

28. Chargers - Ryan Mathews RB Fresno State

29. Jets - Terrence Cody DT Alabama

30. Vikings - Carlos Dunlap DE Flordia

31. Colts - Jarod Odrick DT Penn State

32. Saints - Maurkice Pouncey OG Flordia

Finally, here are my Detroit Lions mocked other picks. Look for them to trade up with some of those 7th ronders

Round 2 pick 35 - Taylor Mays S USC - I believe they will move him to a OLB

Round 3 pick 66 - Toby Gerhart RB Nebraska

Round 4 pick 100 - Major Wright S Florida

Round 7 pick 213 - George Selvie OLB South Flordia

Round 7 pick 214 - Walter McFadden CB Auburn

Round 7 pick 220 - Michael Hoomanawanui TE Illinois

Round 7 pick 255 - Rodelin Anthony WR UNLV

Abbott & Costello 2010...

For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on...

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few days later)

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on 'START'..... ........

Its DRAFT TIME!

With the Super Bowl just 6 days away now, I think its time to start talking about the Detroit Lions Super Bowl...The Draft! As most of you know, our Motor City Kitties have the 2nd pick overall in this years draft. As projected by Hair (Mel) Kiper Jr. and Todd Mcshay, the Lions are going to take Gerald McCoy, defensive tackle out of Oklahoma. I dislike the pick, and just like everyone else who roots for the Lions, I was the Rams to take a quarterback so that Ndamukong Suh is available. That is not going to happen. So we need to evaluate what the Lions are going to do. I watched watched the Sun Bowl. McCoy did not look like a player who should be the 2nd player taken overall. However, we need to talk him up that he is a player that should be taken #2 overall so that we can trade down..........with Seattle.

The Seahawks have 2 picks in the first round (# 6 and 14). Per the trade chart the number 2 overall pick is worth 2600. Number 6 overall is worth 1600 and 14 is worth 1100. After doing simple addition both of the Seahawks picks are worth only 100 more then the Lions number 2. So we add our 3 round pick next year and 4th this year and the deal is done! With the 6th overall the Detroit Lions select CB Joe Hadden out of Flordia! With the 14th overall pick the Detroit Lions select defensive end Brandon Graham out of the University of Michigan. With the 34th overall pick (2nd in the 2nd round) the Detroit Lions select defensive tackle Brian Price from UCLA. With the 66th overall (2nd pick in the 3rd round) pick the Detroit Lions select safety Marlon Rolle out of Florida State.

Being that what I just wrote is all a dream and more than likely not going to happen, here is what I think the Lions should do in the situation they are currently in. I still do not want McCoy. He just does not seem like he is worth number 2. However, who is worth the number 2 pick is............Rolando McClain, inside linebacker out of Alabama. This guy is a stud! He lead his defense to a National Championship. We need an inside guy with Larry Foote not the long term answer. McClain hits and hits hard, he is smart, fast, and in comparison a Ray Lewis type player.

After McClain I would do whatever it takes to move up and get Brandon Graham. This guy is the real deal out of Michigan. He was the Senior Bowl MVP, 2 sacks in a game where they do not allow blitz's. With McClain and Graham the Lions Defense becomes instantly relevant again.

Finally, in the 3rd, I would still take safety Marlon Rolle Safety from Florida State and in the fourth is when I would take the best available Defensive tackle (remember Shaun "big baby" Rogers was a late round pick).

The Detroit Lions have a chance to make HUGE strides this off season. Lets just see if they can sit back and do this the right way this time! I believe they can......

The Tigers Trade...Again!

Alright, lets revisit this one more time, this time from Left Center. Let me get this strait, the Tigers traded the face of the team in Curtis Grandson for Austin Jackson and Phil Coke. Coke is going to be a decent situational lefty coming out of the pen. He has a career 3.74 ERA with a 5-3 record in 84 games.

But Jackson! Really! Isn't this team in need of a left handed power hitter? Doesn't this team need a lead off hitter. Well fans of Detroit we at least got one of the two! Jackson is right handed but in 132 games in this minors this year, Jackson hit .300 with 4 HR and 65 RBIs. Yes! He does not have much power, but this guy has speed! 24 steals and caught only 4 times, with 23 doubles and 9 triples. Lets give this guy a shot just like we gave Curtis a chance. I have to believe many of you were just like me when the Tigers said he was going to be the starting center fielder...who the heck is Curtis Granderson? There is no way he can handle the spacious center field in the Copa! Well folks, C.G. proved us wrong, so lets give Jackson a chance! I believe he is going to be a STUD! My 2010 prediction for Jackson... .275 5 (1 inside-the-park) 57 rbis 35 steals and caught 10 times.

As for the other part of the deal...Edwin Jackson for Max Scherzer and Daniel Schlereth. This one you are going to LOVE! Yes! Jackson was an all-star this year, but what did he do down the final stretch? The same thing that he did for Tampa last year. Remember when Tampa left him off the playoff roster last year? Jackson just does not have the arm strength to make it a whole season. He breaks down, his arm gets tired, and then he starts throwing up balloons that guys drive to ole' Michigan and Trumble (thats old Tiger Stadium for those who do not know).

So we sent him for Scherzer and Schlereth. Schlereth can do anything out of the pen. He can close, he can set up, and he can get that one tough lefty out in any situation. Yeah, his numbers last year really do not show that 1-4 with a 5.89 era in 21 games, but he throws HARD and is going to turn some head this 2010 season.

Finally, Max Scherzer...The piece of the Tigers puzzle we have all been waiting for. He is the one that will help all of us forget about this trade in just a few short years. Heck maybe even by the end of this season. In the two years he has been in Arizona he has a 9-15 record with a measly 3.86 era in 46 games, 240 k's (174 of them last year in his first full year). Strikeouts last year for Jackson...161... Scherzer is going to LOVE pitching in the spacious Comerica Park. He has awesome stuff and I believe he WILL be an ALL-STAR this season!

All in all I really like the trade. I hate that Grandy is a Yankee. I believe that he is going to become a Tiger killer. But then again, don't we only have to pitch a lefty against him?

Our projected line-up right now will look something like this...

1. Jackson - CF
2. Guillen - LF
3. Maggs - DH
4. Miggy - 1st
5. Raburn - RF
6. Inge - 3rd
7. Sizemore - 2nd
8. Avila - C
9. Everett - SS

Roation:
1. J.V.
2. Scherzer
3. Porcello
4. Bondo
5. ?? Galarraga/Minor/Willis/Roberston

A few guys to watch during spring training OF Casper Wells and OF Wilkin Ramirez. Both guys have a chance to make the team out of spring training, and both have the ability to make the Tigers move a guy like Guillen just so they can get into the everyday lineup.

I AM EXCITED! We have just 35 days till pitcher and catchers report! WOO HOO!

Completly New...

I believe I have already had my first case of writers cramp...I have no idea how to start one of these blog things. Writing have really never been my thing. But I thought I should give it a go. This blog is going for those sports lovers like me, but will tie in things about my beautiful wife Lindsey and my family from time to time. But if you really want to see whats going on in the Ackerman family then slide over to Linzs blog The First Day Of The Rest.

I really hope that you enjoy what I have to say and remember my views are my views only, and not those of my readers. :) Thats my disclaimer... Posts will be interactive occasionally so please feel free to comment...

Thanks and wish me luck with this whole writing thing :)
